A Mother’s Thinking Love

Welcome! I’m Abby

I am a classroom teacher turned homeschool mom. We have been homeschooling for eight years, and it has been a beautiful journey. We have been inspired by Charlotte Mason’s philosophy in the elementary and middle school years. Now that we are embarking on the high school years, we are determined to keep her philosophy at our core. Join us as we create a DIY Charlotte Mason High School!

Why “A Mother’s Thinking Love”?

Why “A Thinking Love”?
“The mother is qualified,” says Pestalozzi, “and qualified by the Creator Himself, to become the principal agent in the development of her child; … and what is demanded of her is––a thinking love . . . God has given to the child all the faculties of our nature, but the grand point remains undecided––how shall this heart, this head, these hands be employed? to whose service shall they be dedicated? A question the answer to which involves a futurity of happiness or misery to a life so dear to thee. Maternal love is the first agent in education.”

Our reason

“This idea of all education springing from and resting upon our relation to Almighty God-we do not merely give a religious education because that would seem to imply the possibility of some other education, a secular education, for example. But we hold that all education is divine, that every good gift of knowledge and insight comes from above, that the Lord the Holy Spirit is the supreme educator of mankind, and that the culmination of all education (which may at the same time be reached by a little child) is that personal knowledge of and intimacy with God in which our being finds its fullest perfection.”

Why A DIY Charlotte Mason High School

I have been incredibly blessed to benefit from a number of Charlotte Mason home educators who paved the way for me. I am indebted to them for sharing their wisdom and experiences.

Over our journey, we have used various Charlotte Mason curriculums, each requiring us to make adjustments to suit our needs. We have added in some curriculums marketed as classical with the same results.

After spending, eight years steeped in Charlotte Mason’s philosophy and learning about our needs, I felt ready to create our own plan for high school. I will be looking to Charlotte Mason’s Volumes, modern Charlotte Mason education books, and recommended living books to make our plan.

I am so excited for this DIY Charlotte Mason High School journey!
