Why “From Everlasting”?
We live in a society that is ephemeral. Every moment brings us NEW news. By the time the news actually reaches us, it is OLD news. Trends in fashion change with each season. Older generations and younger generations struggle to understand each other because language changes so frequently. Technology and car companies debut new models, with new features, every year.
I can think of no arena more based on the ephemeral than social media. Did you know that social media influencers actually have a term based on this? It’s called “ephemeral” or “disappearing” content. These terms refer to social media content that disappears after a short time, usually 24 hours. This creates a sense of urgency in social media consumers. This type of content ties us to our devices, often unbeknownst to us, lest we miss out on the latest post or reel.
Like the Wise Builder
Our children, whether we like it or not, are part of a world that’s based on the fleeting. We can’t change the world overnight. In fact, we can’t change the world at all. But, we can teach our children how to live in, and be a witness and light to, such a world. We can teach them to be like the Wise Builder, in Matthew chapter 7, who built his house on the rock. So, no matter what comes, their houses won’t fall because they had their foundations on the rock.
- When we teach them that God created the heavens and the earth, we are teaching them that there was, and is, an unmoved mover, an uncreated creator. This world is not, and they are not, here by chance.
- When we teach them that this Creator is everlasting and does not grow faint and weary, we are showing them that they can have a peace that passes all understanding.
- When we show them the Ancient of Days, seated on His throne, we remind them to live soberly and with boldness. The Ancient of Days rules and reigns over this world. What he ordains will come to pass. They can be sure of this.
So, finally, they can sing: “leaning on the everlasting arms,” as they rest in this promise:
this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison

What’s Included in “From Everlasting”?

- There are FIVE Scripture readings for this month, as there are five weeks in the month.
- There is NO picture for Picture Study this month.
Optional Resources for “From Everlasting”
- Study Guide for Psalm 90 from Blue Letter Bible: We are using this FREE guide to study Psalm 90 this month. We like that the guides are simple and broken down verse-by-verse.
- We put our Family Worship Guides each month into a binder. We also put each page into a sheet protector. This just helps the guides hold up throughout the month. Plus, you can reuse the binder and sheet protectors each month. Here are the binders and sheet protectors we like and currently use.
- Link to audio for Psalm 90 from Blue Letter Bible
- Music Accompaniment Resource – This website is a fantastic resources for music accompaniment for hymns and songs. Many of the songs from the Family Worship Guides are featured on this website.
