Why “Here is Love”?
The theme of this Family Worship Guide is so dear to me. After all, love is truly the theme of our Christian faith. Love redeemed us. Love saved us. Love motivates us. Surely, this love carries us through every moment of every day. J.C. Ryle had this to say of the love of Christ:
“The Lord Jesus is not only a mighty Savior, but merciful, kind, and gracious to a degree that our minds cannot conceive. Well might the apostle Paul say, that “the love of Christ passes knowledge.” (Ephes. 3:19.) Like him, let us pray that we may “know” more of that love. We need it when we first begin our Christian course, poor trembling penitents, and babes in grace. We need it afterwards, as we travel along the narrow way, often erring, often stumbling, and often cast down. We shall need it in the evening of our days, when we go down the valley of the shadow of death. Let us then grasp the love of Christ firmly, and keep it daily before our minds. We shall never know, until we wake up in the next world, how much we are indebted to it.”
After all, this world can be a hard place. We experience trials and tribulations. We are heartbroken by our own sins and the sins of others. But through it all, the love of God brings us comfort and gives us strength. Throughout Scripture, through the most beautiful story, we see this love from the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Certainly, this is precious love is a gift we ought to share with our children.
What’s Included in “Here is Love”?
Overall, this month’s guide follows the same format as the others. However, there are two notes at the end for this guide in particular. First, the Psalm for this guide is a bit longer than the others. You may want to divide it up and read a small portion each day. For example, if you are using the guide four days per week, you could divide the Psalm into four sections and read one each day. Second, another small difference, there is only one picture included for this month’s Picture Study.
Optional Resources for “Here is Love”
- Study Guide for Psalm 136 from Blue Letter Bible: We are using this FREE guide to study Psalm 136 this month. We like that the guides are simple and broken down verse-by-verse.
- We put our Family Worship Guides each month into a binder. We also put each page into a sheet protector. This just helps the guides hold up throughout the month. Plus, you can reuse the binder and sheet protectors each month. Here are the binders and sheet protectors we like and currently use.
