Why “Words of Life”?
We are surrounded by words, both written and spoken. Walk into any home, and you might find words coming from a television, a podcast, household conversation, and a number of other sources. We scroll social media apps and are flooded with words from all over the world. Unfortunately, in this constant stream of words, we often imbibe words that are not worthy of our time. Consider all that you have read and heard in the last day. How much of it meets the standard given by Paul in Philippians 4:8?
“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”
Let us labor, as Christian parents, to show our children where to find words worthy of Paul’s exhortation. Let us set Words of Life before them each day, so they, like Peter in John 6, may seek after them and turn to their source: Jesus Christ, our precious Savior.
66 After this many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him. 67 So Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you want to go away as well?” 68 Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life, 69 and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God.”
What’s Included in “Words of Life”?
Overall, this month’s guide follows the same format as the others. However, there are two notes at the end for this guide in particular. First, the Psalm for this guide is a bit longer than the others. You may want to divide it up and read a small portion each day. For example, if you are using the guide four days per week, you could divide the Psalm into four sections and read one each day. Second, another small difference, there is only one picture included for this month’s Picture Study.
Optional Resources for “Words of Life”
- Study Guide for Psalm 19 from Blue Letter Bible: We are using this FREE guide to study Psalm 136 this month. We like that the guides are simple and broken down verse-by-verse.
- We put our Family Worship Guides each month into a binder. We also put each page into a sheet protector. This just helps the guides hold up throughout the month. Plus, you can reuse the binder and sheet protectors each month. Here are the binders and sheet protectors we like and currently use.
